Funeral for Robert Sherrill Oakes, 72, of Moulton will be Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Parkway Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Griffis and Rev. Steve Agee officiating. Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Oakes, who died Thursday, October 15, 2015, in Decatur, was born December 7, 1942, to Robert M. Oakes and Arlene Vinson Oakes. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a graduate of Morgan County High School in 1961. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan and loved deer hunting and his English bull dogs. He was retired from Champion Paper after 30 years and faithfully served in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Oakes and Carolyn Oakes Whitten.
Survivors include Joyce Hampton Oakes, of Moulton; son, John David Oakes, of Tuscaloosa; adopted daughter, Phyllis Denise Hampton Stingily, of Tuscaloosa; grandson, Kyle David (Lauren) Stingily, of Atlanta; granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Stingily, of Atlanta.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
