Robert Q. Wilson Sr. – Obituary

Robert Q. Wilson Sr., 90, was born on January 8, 1924, and passed on to Heaven on May 4, 2014. He was a World War II veteran, having served in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters as a member of the Navy on board the USS Wake Island, CVE 65. He went on to graduate with a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Auburn University in 1950. There he met his future wife, Lula Mae, and married her in 1947. He worked for International Harvester before owning his own business, Welding Supply of Alabama, in Decatur. He retired to Orange Beach in 1980. There he was active in church mission trips and traveling all over Mexico with his wife in their camper. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Wilson, his parents, Lawrence and Willie Mae Wilson, and four brothers and three sisters. He leaves behind his two sons, Robert Q. Wilson Jr. and Lawrence A. Wilson (Chris), grandsons, Pat, Jon (Emily), and Drew Wilson, granddaughter Ashley Wilson, and six great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held for Mr. Wilson Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Pine Rest Funeral Home starting at 1 p.m. and there will be a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service with burial immediately following the funeral service in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the Wilson’s request that donations be made to Gulf Shores United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 374, Gulf Shores, AL 36547 or American Legion Post 199 (Veteran’s Cemetery Fund) P.O. Box 473 Fairhope, AL 36533.
