Obituary of Robert Michael Jones Robert Michael Jones, 57, of Gadsden, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Robert was born June 24, 1968, to Hollis Willburn and Mary Etta Jones. Raised in Gadsden, Alabama, he was always a Gadsden boy.

Robert was a native of Etowah County and a 1987 graduate of Emma Sansom High School. After graduation, Robert decided to have a career working in supermarkets, where he was a proud employee of Food World Supermarkets until their closure. Robert was also a proud employee of Cash Saver Supermarkets until they also closed. Robert was a proud employee of Johnson’s Supermarket until his passing. When asked why Robert, who could have had a job in any career, chose grocery stores, he said, “I am a people person. I like people. I want to minister to as many people as I can and tell them about Jesus.” Somewhere between meat, produce, and stocking shelves, he did just that. He told people about Jesus for 38 years.

At a very young age, he gave his life to Jesus and was a very dedicated Christian. He was a proud member of Gospel Truth Lighthouse Church, where he could be found almost every Sunday at church in his same spot, taking notes of the television program and what the pastor preached about, just to go and share it Monday morning at work with whomever might stop and talk with him. One of Robert’s proudest moments was when he was baptized as an adult at church. He came up praising God and saying, “My God, that water was cold.” Robert had quite the sense of humor, always trying to make people laugh.

Some of his favorite hobbies were going on road trips, visiting different towns and cities, along with collecting records. He had a love for music and could tell you any song and the history of who sang it. If you ever got on the phone with him, he would go on for hours with story after story. He never failed to let anyone’s anniversary or birthday pass without sending cards, messages, and calls, always ending each one with, “Peace, Love, Happiness, and Faith.”

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery in Ashville, Alabama.
