Robert Louis “Lou” Batten

Robert Louis “Lou” Batten, 80, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024.

Born at Cochran Army Airfield, Lou moved to Bridgeton, NJ in 1945, and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1962. He served in the Air Force for four years before taking a break. During that time, he met and married his wife, Linda, and earned his degree from Armstrong State in Savannah, GA.

He resumed his military service in 1972 and completed his 20 years before retiring and moving the family to Germany with a contracting job. They enjoyed living and traveling in Europe for 22 years until Linda retired from teaching for DODDS.

They moved back to Bridgeton, spending winters in Florida and traveling the US before moving to Huntsville in 2020.

Lou played all different sports as a child and loved all sports as an adult, but he was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Robert V. Batten and Margaret Smith Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Linda Conley Batten; sons, Scott Batten (Jami) and Kevin Batten (Kim); and grandchildren, Anthony, Isabella, Kevin, Drew, Knight, Knox and Felicity Batten, and Jessica and Jack Dyes.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of North Alabama.
