Coach Robert Lemuel Godsey of Killen, Alabama joined his beloved wife, Mildred, in heaven on Monday February 19th, 2018. Coach Godsey lived a long wonderful life in which he impacted the lives of many students through education, football, and other sports. He loved God, his church, football, food, westerns, and his family. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a deacon in the Primitive Baptist Church. Football aided him to live the American dream by rising up from tenant farmer parents to having a masters’ degree in education. He had great influence on several football programs and was beloved by his players. In Abbeville he achieved Coach of the Year for the state of Alabama and his teams became Wiregrass Champions many times. In Lee County Georgia he started the football program that recently became champions in the state of Georgia. He enjoyed watching his son play football at Wilson High School and at Troy State University. His grandchildren adored and respected him. We all loved his witty humor that was unmatched and always on point. He worked harder than anyone and never asked more from a person than he gave himself. We will miss him so much.
Coach Godsey is survived by daughters, Rebekah Anne Godsey Bonds (Graham), Pennye Godsey Garrett(Jeff), and son Robert Stanley Godsey(Amanda), 5 grandsons, James Graham Lennon Bonds, Nathan Lane Castleman Bonds (Meghan), Phillip Morgan Garrett(Allison), Daniel Seth Garrett, Robert Luke Godsey, and 2 granddaughters Elizabeth Sloan Godsey Sittason (Blair), and Olivia Marie Godsey.
