Robert Lee “Bobby” Spencer, III, age 75 of Winchester, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Saint Thomas West in Nashville. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Spencer was born in Winchester, Tennessee on August 27th, 1948, to the late Robert Lee Spencer, Jr. and Betty June (Smith) Spencer. He was the oldest of four brothers and longtime member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Franklin County High in 1966, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he met and married his wife of over 48 years, Karen Crabtree Spencer on May 9th, 1975, and went on to receive his Associate’s degree from Motlow State Community College. Bobby retired from The State of Tennessee Comptroller’s Office with the Division of Property Assessments after 35 years of dedicated service. His passion for his profession continued after retirement in his private appraisal business that kept him active until he fell ill this past summer. He loved sports – You could always find Bobby attending a Franklin County High School baseball, football, or basketball game throughout the year. He was a Big Orange fan and always enjoyed watching the Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols. He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Assessing Officers and its affiliate chapter in TN, VFW, American Legion Post 44, and most importantly a proud Veteran. Bobby was a man of honor and had a deep love for his family and friends, especially his two granddaughters. He loved being their “Poppy” as they were two of the brightest lights in his life. His yorkies, Cooper Jack and Emmy Belle, also held a special place in his heart. He was a loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Benny Allen Spencer. Survivors include his wife Karen (Crabtree) Spencer, son Lee (Leah) Spencer of Nolensville, TN, daughter Lindsey Spencer (Macy) Brower of Murfreesboro, TN, granddaughters Allie Collins Brower and Lillie McCall Brower of Murfreesboro, TN, brothers Bruce (Joy) Spencer, Sr. of Winchester, TN and Brent (Angie) Spencer of Decherd, TN, nephews Bruce (Alicia) Spencer, Jr. and Blake (Abby) Spencer of Chattanooga, TN, and niece Casey (Ben) Merrill of Cowan, TN, brother-in-law Donald (Cherie) Crabtree of Roswell, GA, and a host of cousins and extended family. Visitation will be from 1 PM – 3 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 PM at Moore-Cortner with Dr. Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with Military Honors bestowed. Bruce Spencer, Sr., Brent Spencer, Macy Brower, Bruce Spencer, Jr., Blake Spencer, Billy Taylor, Roy Weddington, and Randy Bradford will serve as pallbearers.
