Robert Lamar Weddington departed this life on May 17, 2026 from the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford where he had resided the last 4 years. He was 75 years old. Born on October 12, l950 in Calhoun County, Anniston, Alabama to the late Robert Greet Weddington and Lucille Jones Weddington, Lamar grew up there, graduated from High School and received his trade degree from Gadsden State Community College. He was great with his hands and became an Appliance Repairman his whole working life. A patriotic American, SSG Robert Lamar Weddington served two tours of duty in Vietnam including a total of 8 years service to his country. Over 17 years ago, he moved to Tupelo to be near his sister, Vivian Chesnut and her husband, MG (R) Bob Chesnut. He enjoyed being around people and was an astute storyteller relating his adventurous life experiences to anyone who would listen. Lamar loved the outdoors and loved fishing. He enjoyed playing pool and spent many hours at Mike’s Bar and Pool Hall sharing his life experience with other veterans and townspeople. Lamar was non-judgmental and was a champion for the least, last and most vulnerable in life. He was generous to a fault, was a master woodcarver and made countless wanted to live forever.

A celebration of his life, with military honors, will take place at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 20,2026 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Mark Cayson officiating He will be interred privately in Gaylesville Cemetery in Cherokee County, Alabama. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. Lamar is survived by his sister, Vivian Chesnut and her husband, MG (R) Bob Chesnut, who were his caregivers for a long time; their daughter and his niece, Shannon Fulford (Joe) and their daughter, Avery; his nephew, Rob and Kate Chesnut and their children, Landry and Ledger; nieces, Angela Chesnut and Melissa Chesnut and her children, Darcy Garrett, Dean Garrett (Sarah) and their child, Jhett.
