Robert James Smalley – Obituary

Robert James Smalley, 84, of Phil Campbell, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Smalley was born on July 23, 1930. Robert served in the United States Army for four years during the Korean War. He was a member of Bear Creek No. 1 Baptist Church for four years. Robert was a maintenance mechanic by trade and a former restaurant owner. He was a VFW member and enjoyed woodworking. Robert was given the nickname “Pappy” while working on a boat.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Bear Creek No. 1 Baptist Church at 1:00pm. Brother Kirk Cagle will officiate.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Bobbie Jean Smalley; sons, Dan (Debbie) Smalley, William Smalley; steps-son, Dewayne (Martha) Lewis, Randall Lewis, Daryl (Shari) Lewis and brother, Dennis (Camille) Smalley Jr. He was “Pappy” to eight grandchildren, Gabby Smalley, Connor Smalley, Marylin Smalley, Kim Lewis, Terry Wayne Lewis, Heath Lewis, Dustin Lewis, Derek Lewis, five great grandchildren, Kandice Adair, Andrew Adair, Jake McGough, Mikyla Lewis and Malayiah Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Smalley Sr. and Margaret Smalley, and brother, William Smalley.
