Robert H. Labbe – Obituary

Robert H. Labbe, 85, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. Mr. Labbe served 27 years in the US Army, including WWII. For 16 years, he was the NASA Chief of Security. He was responsible for the security and safety of Dr. Werner Von Braun and his team, an array of astronauts in the U.S. Space Program, and coordinated with the Secret Service on the arrivals of U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, their families and staff. He was also employed at Lockheed Martin for ten years. Robert was an avid golfer and golf instructor. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret M. Labbe; sons, Terry L. Labbe and wife Betty, of Ardmore, AL, and Robert P. Labbe; granddaughter, Jennifer L. Ellinger and husband, Patrick, of Huntsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 31 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
