Robert Gordon Wilson, 89, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020.
Born in Huntsville, Alabama on May 6, 1931 to Jesse Wallace Wilson and Opal Kathleen Kelly Wilson, Mr. Wilson graduated from Huntsville High School in 1949 where he played football for the Crimson Panthers. He graduated from Auburn University in 1953 with a BS in Business Administration and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His love of all things Auburn followed him through his life. Mr. Wilson served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was an owner of Wilson Furniture Co. and Westmoreland Antiques. He was active in the community as a member of the Huntsville Kiwanis Club and served as Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Alabama. He was a member of Acme Club and Trinity United Methodist Church where he sang in the Sanctuary Choir for more than 40 years. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jesse W. Wilson, Jr.; and sister, Helen Wilson Caudle.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gloria Clark Wilson; son, Robert G. Jr. (Lou); daughters, Alice Kay Pierce (Steve) and Jean Ann Carter (Alec); four grandsons, Drew Thomasson (Sarah), Gordon Maples (Oleander), Scott Thomasson and Chandler Wilson; and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Elliot Thomasson.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st, at Trinity UMC with Dr. Charles Gattis and Reverend Mitchell Williams officiating. Seating is limited to 200, and facial coverings are required. A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund of Trinity United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity.
