Robert F. Crone Jr. – Obituary

Robert F. Crone Jr., of Fort Myers, FIorida, passed away on April 17, 2018, in Fort Myers. He was born August 28, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1956 with a degree in chemical engineering. Following graduation, he proudly served three years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

In 1959, he began his industrial career as a chemical engineer at Chemstrand, later to become a part of Monsanto Corporation, in Decatur, Alabama. After holding various management positions, in 1974 he became plant manager of the Decatur plant. In 1982, he became the plant manager of the Monsanto Pensacola, Florida plant; a position he held until his retirement in 1989.

During his career, he held leadership positions on many civic and professional boards in Decatur and Pensacola, including Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Junior Achievement, Pensacola Junior College and Alabama Textile Manufacturing Association.

In Fort Myers, he was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Juliana Crone Winters; and son, Major John Armistead Crone.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Griffin Crone of Fort Myers; son, Robert F. Crone III of Suwanee, Georgia; his sister, Caroline Crone Cronan of Louisville, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5th, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Fort Myers.
