Robert E. (Buck) Walker, age 99, of Scottsboro, formerly of Princeton, passed away on July 8, 2025. He was six weeks shy of his 100th birthday. He was a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre in the 3rd Army Armored Division under General Patton. He was one of the many men who stormed the beaches of Normandy at Omaha Beach.
Mr. Walker was a member of the Holly Grove Lodge II 323 at Princeton and a member of the Huntsville York Rite. He belonged to the Holly Grove Chapter 524 of Princeton and was a member of the Scottsboro Chapter 202. He retired from the Jackson County Board of Education and served on the Jackson County Commission for two terms. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty Gattis Walker; daughters, Bobbie (Dugan) Williams of Scottsboro, and Sandy Walker of Orange Beach. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Monica (James) McKenzie, Brittney (Todd) Klueger, and Taylor Kean; and three great grandchildren, Mitchell (Jenna) McKenzie, Mason McKenzie and Hensley Klueger.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Euda Walker; sister, Louise Putman; brother Bill Walker; and great granddaughter Laurel Klueger.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Scottsboro Funeral Home. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Clay Cemetery in Princeton with Mr. Rex Sisk officiating.
