Robert E. “Bobby” Blackburn, age 81 of Dora, passed away on Saturday May 29, 2021.
Born in Fairfield, AL to Robert F. Blackburn and Lucile Bristow-Blackburn on Dec. 13, 1939, and grew up in Ensley, AL. He went on to attend UAB, with a major in Engineering. He was a Freemason; a U.S. Marine; maintenance supervisor at Griffin Wheel Co.; owner of Golden Skillet Fried Chicken; Pasquale’s Pizza; Pizza Time, and was a member of Sumiton Church of God.
“He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather”.
Funeral services will be Wednesday June 2, 2021 at 11:00 am in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Lane Sargent and Rev. John Foles will officiate. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Tuesday night 6-8 pm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Blackburn and Lucile Bristow-Blackburn; sister, Betty White and brother-in-law, Calvin White; father-in-law, Quinton Jones and mother-inn-law, Lois Morrow Jones.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Mary Nell Jones Blackburn; daughter, Suzette Blackburn Holt (Melvin); son, Robert Brad Blackburn (Tanya); grandchildren, Laura Nell Markus (Adam); Christin Blackburn, Robert Melvin Holt, Tiffany Blackburn; Mary Suzanne Holt; great grandson, Lincoln Markus; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; brother-in-law, Jim Jones (Kay) and sister-in-law, Sue Freeman (Garland Thompson).
