Robert Derrell Gann, better known as Snook, 81, of Winfield, passed away at his residence on Friday, May 22, 2026. Mr. Gann was born in Marion County, Ala., on July 10, 1944, to Robert Claude and Birdie Jones Gann.

He was a 1963 graduate of Brilliant High School and a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years. Robert spent more than 40 years working in the coal mining industry as an underground miner with Gorgas and Shoals Creek Mines. Following a mining accident that resulted in the loss of part of his leg, he courageously continued working for another 30 years before his retirement. During his time at Gorgas, he also served as president of the local UMWA chapter. When not working, Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, listening to country music and spending time with his family. Above all else, Robert loved worshipping and serving the Lord.

Mr. Gann is survived by his wife, Paulette Hickman Gann; his sons, Robert Scott Gann (Monica) and Chris Gann (Amanda); his grandchildren, Robert Braxton Gann, William Gann, Sarah Gann, Jeremiah Gann (LeAnna), Anna Gann, Savannah Gann and Silas Gann; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mr. Gann was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Claude and Birdie Gann; his brothers, J.B., Jesse and David; and his sister, Bobbie.

Funeral services for Mr. Gann were held on May 26, 2026, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Brilliant Memorial Gardens.
