Mr. Goss, who died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born August 1, 1942 in Dixon, Mississippi to Marvin and Etoile Goss of Dixon.
He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He and his wife moved to Decatur after graduation where he began his career first at Wolverine Tube and then Monsanto. After a few years, in April of 1976, be began Goss Electric Company with one employee. He was honored to receive the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year award in 1997 and the ABC North Alabama Eagle Award in 2007. Carl was also instrumental in the development of Tennessee Valley Training Center and served as a board member for eight years.
Carl’s favorite past time was work – he was never satisfied just sitting behind a desk. He enjoyed working alongside his men on many, many jobs. When he wasn’t on a job, he enjoyed running his bulldozer, cutting and baling hay, and always engineering a better way to do things. The times that he did just have fun were spent riding horses or 4-wheelers with his family.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 46 years where he served as deacon and comptroller. He was very faithful to his church and dearly loved by his church family.
Carl was well loved and respected in all areas of his life. His generosity was noted by many because of his love for others.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 50 years, Ruth Boler Goss, one son, Scott Goss (Tina) of Danville, two daughters, Aleisha McLemore (Norman) of Moulton, and Amy Owens of Trinity. 11 grandchildren, Dalton, Amber, and Megan Goss, Ben, Abbie, Anna and Rebecca McLemore, and Jake, Charlie, Hannah and Sam Owens. 5 brothers, Bobby (Terri), Jimmy (Cindy), Jerry (Sharon), Doyle (Marilyn), and Johnny (Diane). 3 sisters, Patricia Gray (Paul), Shirley Skinner (Billy Joe), and Barbara Belk.
