Robert "Bobby" Mayfield Mr. Robert (Bobby) O’Neal Mayfield, age 93, of Albertville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, July 21, in his home surrounded by his family. Bobby was born on June 14, 1931, to the late Robert and Minnie Mayfield in Whiton, Alabama. Bobby is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan Long Mayfield, his sons Greg Mayfield (Dainna) and Brent Mayfield (Kim), his grand children Megan Jaeger (Kyle), Matt Mayfield (Carlie), Mary Madryga (Carson), Ryan Mayfield, and Emily Mayfield, and his great granddaughter Elliot (Ellie) May Jaeger. In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his brother Barney Mayfield, and his sisters Ruth Stansell, Gail Gilliland, and Sarah Owen.

Bobby grew up in the Whiton community and worked hard on his family’s farm from a very young age. He graduated from Geraldine High School in 1950 and went on to work for many years in the tire and rubber industry until his first retirement. Having worked hard his entire life and finding retirement unsatisfying, Bobby began a second career founded on his love of cars and driving by working with a local automobile dealer transporting cars between buyers and sellers around the southeast. Until his second retirement at age 84, he thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of driving the open roads and the many relationships developed along the way. Most of all, Bobby loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. To them, he was their beloved Granddaddy who always wanted to have fun, laugh, and make the most of their time together.

Bobby will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was an excellent storyteller and his many grandaddy sayings and one-liners have brought much joy to the family over the years. Bobby had a one-of-a-kind personality that will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him well.

A visitation for Bobby will be held on Saturday July 27, 2024, from 9:30am to 11:00am at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am in the chapel with Brother Tony Simmons officiating. A lunch reception for friends and family will be held at North Broad Street Church of Christ immediately following the service. The family is requesting no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobby’s memory to Shepard’s Cove, Albertville, or North Broad Street Church of Christ, Albertville.
