Robert “Bob” William Milstead – Obituary

robertRobert “Bob” William Milstead, son of the late William Buford and Jenny Mae Milstead and last surviving grandson of Dr. Hugh M. Milstead, of Hornsby, Tennessee, passed from this life on Nov. 30, 2014, at the age of 87.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank driver, staff sergeant, and draftsman.

Bob obeyed the gospel of Christ and became a Christian in 1948, serving the Lord faithfully everywhere he and his family lived and worshiped. Over his lifetime he taught bible class and served as a deacon and elder in several congregations of the church of Christ. He currently worshiped with the saints at Mars Hill Church of Christ.

After 35 years he retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a division of Tenneco, in 1986.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Hugh M. Milstead, and by his son, William Larry Milstead.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julia Thornton Milstead; two daughters, Mary Lisa Williamson and husband, Sam, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Leta Mariea Milstead, of Florence, Alabama; and two grandchildren, Samuel Mark Williamson and wife, Tracy, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Margaret Shannon Williamson, of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The funeral service will be today at 1 p.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel. David Sain, Bill Bagents, and Chris Moran will officiate.

The family would like to thank Dr. Irons for all his love and care of Bob over these last 27 years. Also, our gratitude to Gentiva Home Health Care, Karen Rumph, ECM fifth floor Oasis and staff, and to those at Summit Rehab, and to those who participated in his care over the last two years.

We appreciate our Mars Hill congregation for all the love, support, and kindness during his last few years and especially to Bob and Edith Broadfoot for all their help.

Active pallbearers are Tim Morrow, David Underwood Jr., Roy Skipworth, Hubert Powell, Rickey Collum, and Wesley Collum.

Active honorary pallbearers are Delbert Knight, Sonny Nichols, Bruce Simpson, Bob Broadfoot, and Bob Springer.
