Robert “Bob” Reese Gossett, age 85, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at his residence.
Bob was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Marvin Gossett and Nina Pearl Davis Gossett. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin H. Gossett, Charles D. Gossett, and William Gossett, and sister, Nancy Morrow.
Bob was employed with Reynolds Metals Company as a supervisor and plant manager in Muscle Shoals and Sheffield, Alabama, and Richmond, Virginia. Bob and Marion retired to Clarksville, Tennessee. Bob was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War. He served as Chairman of the Board at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama and as a volunteer for Junior Achievement and Gateway Medical Center. He was a member and in the choir at Sheffield First United Methodist Church and later a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and was a big Alabama fan – Roll Tide!
The celebration of life will be Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at Madison Street United Methodist Church, with Reverend Cliff Wright officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Gossett; daughter, Lynn G. (Mike) Raby, of Avon Lake, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Erin Raby and Katherine Raby.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Horace and Vicki Moncrief, Annette Marks, Mandy Ellison, Lena and Jimmy Orgain, Charlotte Jolly, Bonnie and Brent Driggers, Louisa Hadley, and AseraCare Hospice.
