Robert “Bob” K. Moore – Obituary

1548029_profile_picRobert “Bob” K. Moore, 79, passed away Monday. He was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and he and his parents moved to Decatur, Alabama when he was twelve years old. As a teenager, he worked at both Hills Grocery Store and Hoover Motor Express in Decatur. Mr. Moore graduated from Decatur High School in 1953 and had a degree from Faulkner University. Upon graduating from Decatur High School, he was chosen to attend an engineering school sponsored by Decatur Iron and Steel and Auburn University. Upon completion, he was hired by Decatur Iron and Steel Company in their engineering department and worked there from 1953 to 1955. He was then hired as a full time National Guard Technician by the Alabama Military Department to work at the National Guard Armory in Decatur where he worked until 1959, when he was transferred to Athens, Alabama. Mr. Moore worked at the National Guard Armory there until July 1990, retiring from US Government Civil Service with 35 years service. He remained in the Guard on active duty working with troops being deployed to build roads in Panama. He served with the Engineer Battalion in both Ecuador and Panama and retired from the Military in 1991 as a chief warrant officer CW4 with over 37 years military service. Mr. Moore was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, both the Army and Alabama Commendation medals as well as various other medals and awards. He was a lifetime member of the National Guard Officers Association, the American Legion, and Elk’s Lodge 1648. Mr. Moore attended First Baptist Church in Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert K. Moore Jr., son-in-law, David Butler, and parents, Julian and Eva Moore.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty Parish Moore; daughters, Lisa Butler and her fiancé, Ralph Carp, of Jamison, PA, Susan Brown and husband, Tom, of Los Gratos, CA; stepchildren, John Kearney and wife, Tammy, of Decatur, AL, Richard Kearney and friend, Yvonne Mockabee, of Columbia, SC, Steve Kearney of Madison, AL, Becky Young and husband, Bob, of Hartselle, AL, and Gary Kearney and wife, Petra, of Goleta, CA; daughter-in-law, Amy Kearney of Huntsville, AL; as well as eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
