Robert “Bob” Gordon Posey was born in Bessemer, AL in 1939.
Died in Huntsville, AL July 28, 2025 of pneumonia at the age of 86.
He attended Ensley High School before graduating with a Business Administration Degree from Auburn University. While at Auburn, he was a collegiate wrestler and a member of Sigma Pi Epsilon fraternity. Bob worked at University of Alabama in Huntsville, Sperry Univac, Harris Communication Systems, SCI Systems Inc, TRW Defense Systems and retired civil service from USAMICOM.
He was a long time member of Willowbrook Baptist Church. While there, he was very passionate about helping others cope with grief and he co-led & counseled Grief Share. He was also in the choir for many years.
Along with Don Miller a former teammate from Auburn, they co founded Southern Youth Wrestling. He devoted almost 40 years to coaching youth in North Alabama along with high school wrestling at Butler for 2 years. One of his favorite roles as a parent to Brian and Brad, was coaching or attending their wrestling matches or football games. He also coached youth football for several years. Bob was an avid fisherman including traveling to Alaska on several fishing expeditions. He started riding dirt bikes in the country with his boys and later enjoyed taking road trips cruising on his motorcycle. Bob played on singles and doubles teams for men’s Volvo Tennis League. One of “Big Daddy’s” favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren, Brad and Lauren, play soccer, basketball, volleyball & tennis, never failing to miss a game or match.
Everyone who knew Bob or encountered him knew how much he loved talking about Auburn University especially all sports. He was well known for stopping and talking on walks, at the grocery store, at church, on a plane or just about anywhere.
He was preceded in death by mother and step-father, Dorothy Lindstrom (James A.) Carlin; father and step-mother, Lonnie Augustus (Joyce Goodwin) Posey; wife, Delores Miller Posey; and son, Robert Bradley Posey.
Surviving are son, Brian Eric (Melanee Crane) Posey; grandson, Bradley Dalton (Ashley Sloan) Posey; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Posey; and great grandchildren, Peyton Brinson and Riley Posey.
Visitation will be Thursday 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow Thursday at 3:30 PM.
