Robert MooreRobert Avery Moore, age 91, died on January 11, 2024 in Athens, Alabama. Bob was born on August 12, 1932 in Cullman, Alabama to Robert Edwin Moore and Dorothy Genevieve Avery Moore. Bob was preceded in death his wife of nearly 62 years, Shirley Brunner Moore, and by his parents, his sister Nancy Ruth Moore Kelley, his nephew Steven Moore Kelley, and his niece Pamela Lynn Kelley Gray.

Bob attended Cullman High School and the University of Alabama, where he met his wife Shirley, and where both were members of the Million Dollar Band. In December of 1956 they married, Shirley graduated, and they moved to Evanston, IL, where Bob was already attending Northwestern University. Bob received his MS and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from Northwestern.

In 1957, Bob and Shirley moved to Maryland, where Bob worked at Westinghouse in Baltimore until 1992. He published many papers and was involved with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for many years, ultimately being elected a Life Fellow.

For 25 years Bob and Shirley owned and operated Fabric Chest, a retail fabric store and Bernina sewing machine dealership in Glen Burnie, Maryland. After selling the store, they moved to Athens, Alabama in 2006, where they enjoyed life on the Tennessee River until Shirley died in 2018 of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Bob and Shirley were active with Friendship United Methodist Church in Athens, where Bob was a rotating Adult Sunday School teacher. Bob is survived by his son and two daughters, two granddaughters, a niece and nephew, 5 grand-nieces, 2 grand-nephews 2 great-grand-nephews, and 1 great-grand-niece.

A memorial service will be held at Friendship Church, 16479 Lucas Ferry Rd., Athens, AL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Limestone County in Athens, Alabama.
