DECATUR– Members of the Decatur Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit were on patrol on Tuesday, May 5th.  The officers came up on two individuals who had been robbed at gunpoint.  Here is how the Decatur Police describe events:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

On the night of May 5th, 2015 just before 10:00 pm, members of the Decatur Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit were on patrol in the area of Central Parkway and Bluebird Lane Southwest. As Officers moved through the area they encountered two individuals who had just been robbed at gunpoint. The Officers were able to quickly get a vehicle description to other units in the area, which led to the suspect vehicle being located by Officer Julie Reynolds and Officer Nick Hill.
Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but the driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, one of the suspects, identified as Jorge Ortega Lagunas, jumped from the vehicle and was pursued on foot by Officer Hill. After a lengthy foot pursuit Officer Hill was able to take Lagunas into custody without further incident. The driver of the vehicle was able to escape by driving through a nearby field and ditch. His whereabouts is unknown at this time.
Detective Burleson, from the Decatur Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to begin an investigation. During the course of the investigation Lagunas was positively identified as one of the offenders. Lagunas was placed under arrest for Robbery in the 1st Degree, physical harassment, and false name or address to Law Enforcement. His bond has not been set at this time.”
