Roald Joseph Richard, age 53, died suddenly in a road bicycle accident on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane, his son, Mark, and daughters Christina and Anna. His loving parents are Marien and Michel (deceased). Roald was the baby brother of his siblings, Henri, Nicole and Greg. Roald is survived by nieces and nephews David Richard, Jonathan Richard, Nick Kleminsky, Alex Kleminsky, Elizabeth Starkey (Richard), Kelsey Kokes, Beka Troutman, Krissie Daughtry, John David Clark, Steven Yates, Emily Yates, Erica Erbert, and Julie Erbert.
Roald was a fun-loving, joyous person who loved his Lord, family, and life. He graduated from Scottsboro HS (1984) and University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant- TVA in Athens, AL, for 17 years. He drove the round trip every day from Scottsboro to Athens to be home at night with his family. He loved Scottsboro- finding it the perfect little town to raise his family. Besides Ro’s love for spending quality time with his family, he had a love for the outdoors, exercise, and health. He was always seen around town either biking, running, or swimming. He completed an Ironman in Santa Rosa, CA in 2003 and many triathlons throughout the rest of his life. His family and friends are bereft – he will be missed.
During these trying times, we will have an outdoor viewing at Scottsboro Funeral Home on County Park Road, Friday, April 10, from 2pm-5pm. Due to COVID19, the viewing will be conducted as a “drive-by” ceremony, where the guests can drive up in their respective vehicles to greet the family. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life Memorial Ceremony at a future date.
If you would like to make a donation in honor of Roald, please make it to Lupus Research Alliance. Roald suffered from the autoimmune disease, Lupus, for several years and would love to be a part of helping to advance research and help find a cure. https://www.lupusresearch.org/
