SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre invites you to have the time of your life with a 35th-anniversary screening of Dirty Dancing on Friday, Aug 12, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at tennesseevalleyarts.org or at the door.
Dirty Dancing, which stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, was released in 1987 and is a coming-of-age romance set in the 1960s. With its memorable soundtrack and dance numbers, it has become a favorite comfort film, and its legacy includes a prequel film, a stage adaptation, and multiple quotes that have entered the mainstream lexicon.
Audience members are invited to make their evening even more fun by dressing for a 1963 summer in the Catskills. They are also welcome to come as they are. Concessions– including fresh popcorn, sodas, candy, wine, and beer–will be available, and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The event is the perfect way to celebrate the film’s anniversary and the end of summer.
“We thought we’d wrap up the summer with this new classic as it celebrates its 35-year anniversary,” says Christi Britten, the director of the Tennessee Valley Art Association, which runs the Ritz Theatre.
“The themes are still relevant, and the music and dancing stay with you for days after watching!”
