SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre will host two screenings of the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. There will also be a costume contest, trick-or-treat bags, and concessions. Tickets are available at tennesseevalleyarts.org.
The 1993 film is already an annual Halloween tradition for many, and it’s getting even more attention this year because a sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, is launching on streaming service Disney+. Both films focus on the Sanderson sisters, three 17th century witches who have been resurrected in modern-day Salem, Mass. The witches are played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.
This family-friendly event will include a screening of the original Hocus Pocus on the big screen at the historic theatre. There will be a costume contest for participants dressed as characters from the film, and everyone wearing a costume (regardless of theme) will get a trick-or-treat goodie bag.
“With the excitement surrounding the new sequel, the original Hocus Pocus was an obvious choice for this year’s family Halloween film at The Ritz,” says Christi Britten, the executive director of the Tennessee Valley Art Association, which runs the theatre.
“For last year’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween screenings, we had great, enthusiastic crowds and lots of fun costumes. We can’t wait to see witches and warlocks of all ages come out for Hocus Pocus.”
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Concessions will be available, including popcorn, soda, water, candy, wine, and beer. Seating is general admission.
