SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre is hosting auditions for its upcoming musical The Drowsy Chaperone, the 2022 production for the SummerStock at The Ritz program. Auditions will be held March 19, 20, and 26 at the theatre. Advanced registration is required for auditions. Full information and the sign-up form is available at tennesseevalleyarts.org.
SummerStock is The Ritz’s annual summer musical, which features a cast of young adults who spend the summer training and rehearsing. This year’s production is being directed by Suzanne Reese-Mills and Drew Mills.
Performance dates for The Drowsy Chaperone will be July 8, 9, 15, 16, and 17. All potential cast members will need to have a headshot and resume and prepare a one-minute monologue and a song in the style of The Drowsy Chaperone. All who audition must also complete a dance audition, and must disclose any scheduling conflicts.
The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. Principal roles are for 6-8 men and 5-7 women with a mixed adult ensemble. Desired dance skill varies by character, and tap is required for some principal roles. Adults ages 16-26 are given preference in SummerStock casting. Call-backs will be on March 27.
SummerStock is made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The Ritz’s 2022 theatre season is presented by Bank Independent.
