With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Rita Steakley Johnson who left this world on 2/26/2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born on December 27, 1949 in Huntsville Al, Rita was a woman of great strength, resilience, and compassion. She dedicated her life to her family, always putting others before herself and filling every room with love and laughter. Her gentle spirit and caring heart made her a source of comfort and support to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She was a woman of great faith and kindness, always ready with a listening ear, an encouraging word, and a warm embrace. Whether she was cooking a favorite meal, offering wise advice, or simply holding a hand in difficult times, she had a way of making everyone feel special and loved.
Rita is survived by her husband Robert E. Johnson, son Donald Johnson (Tammy), daughter Katrena Olson (Bill), granddaughters Erin Kelly (Matt), Kylie Johnson, and many nieces and nephews who will carry her love and lessons forward. She is now reunited with those who went before her, including her mother and father Walter and Grace Steakley, Brothers Leon and Walter Jr. and Sisters Ruth and Erleen whom she spoke of often and missed dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on March 1, 2025 at Valhalla Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor and cherish her memory. Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Rita will be laid to rest in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, AL.
Though our hearts ache with loss, we take comfort in knowing that her love will live on in all of us. Rest peacefully, dearest Granny, You will be forever missed and always remembered.
