Mr. Ricky Lee McDowell  It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ricky Lee McDowell on March 3, 2026.
Rick–lovingly known as Rickster by his family–will be remembered by his vibrant spirit and infectious, joyful energy. Rick was a devoted gardener, and could be found working in his beautiful yard and enjoying the outdoors on any given day. He was also a lover of music (especially KISS) and was no stranger to a head bang or a goofy dance move when the moment felt right.

He lived life fully, brightly, and colorfully–all the way down to the Happy Socks on his feet. He was dedicated to his faith, his family, and was known for his kindness. Rick was one of the most fun people in the room and yet walked with an air of quiet humility about him. He was never one to speak too highly of himself, and yet the ones who knew him best couldn’t help but speak highly of him. He was someone who worked hard and committed to excellence in everything he did.

Rick’s life is one that is celebrated, and his legacy will be the joy he brought to the ones he loved most. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte McDowell, his children Deanna and DeLane Griffin and Jonathan and Jenna Bell. Grandchildren Jade and Brandon Buford, Butler Bell, Parker Bell, and Chase Griffin. His sisters Shelley and Bob Klein, Linda Cahela. His niece Jamie & Kyle McAnnally, great niece Parker McAnnally and great nephew RJ McAnnally. His great grandchildren Olivia Griffin, Emma Griffin and Lyla Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joyce and Robert McDowell.

A Celebration of Life Garden Party will be hosted in honor of Rick on Saturday, April 18 from 2-4 PM at his home, 452 Winn Road Scottsboro, AL 35769.

Please wear bright colors and in lieu of flowers, bring a perennial to plant in his memory garden. Refreshments will be served.

Arrangements Entrusted to Scottsboro Funeral Home
