Ricky Denton Townsel, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Florida. He was born on November 28, 1948, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ricky had a passion for NASCAR racing and was a dedicated fan of Alabama Football, rarely missing a race or game. His enthusiasm and love for sports brought joy not only to him but also to those who shared those moments with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Lou Townsel and Johnnie Townsel.
Ricky leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Clare Townsel; his only daughter, Angela Townsel; his sisters, Beverly Venable (Gerald) and Patsy Gentle; his grandchildren, Ashley Arnold (Will), Jeremy Potter (Stephanie), and Cory Potter; and his great-grandchildren, Jayci Waldrep, Houston Waldrep, Jaxton Potter, and Josie Potter; his stepchildren, Stephanie Wertz (David) and Shawn Slaybaugh (Brandy); his step-grandchildren, Andrew Obourn (Natasha) and Silas Slaybaugh. He is also survived by other step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Henagar, Alabama on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Ricky will be remembered for his love of family, his warm spirit, and the countless memories he created with those he held dear. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
