Richard Wayne Stanley, 76, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Griffis Green House of Traceway after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Lee County, he was born January 25, 1939, to Walter and Mary Sandlin Stanley. He was a graduate of Saltillo High School. At the beginning of his working career, Wayne sold insurance with Liberty National and Combine Insurance. He later worked for the Tupelo Fire Department for 21 years, first as a fire fighter and then as a dispatcher. After his retirement from the fire department he worked for Pegues Funeral Home for several years. He also worked for Lee Memorial Funeral Home and Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany until his health began to fail. Wayne was a member of Brewer United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a past master of the Tupelo Masonic Lodge 318 and also a past master of the Saltillo Lodge. He was a York Rite and past president of the Lee County Shrine Club. Wayne loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be 2 pm Tuesday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Adams, Bro. Chris McAlilly, Bro. Kenneth Davidson, and Bro. Truman Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
He leaves behind his wife of seven years, Sandra Kay Briley Stanley of Brewer; 2 daughters, Teresa Stanley Brown (Charlie) of LaGrange, TX and Susan Tovar (José) of Houston, TX; 3 sons, Perry “Butch” Stanley (Amy) of Oxford, Chris Stanley of Hamilton, AL and Greg Stanley of Houston, TX; a step-daughter, Savannah McCarter of Brewer; a sister-in-law, Mae Stanley of Tupelo; 3 grandchildren, Ethan Davis of Houston, TX and Luke and Bailey Stanley of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Allen and Lawrence Stanley.
Pallbearers will be Roger Davis, Charles Talley, David Pierce, Charles Kitchen, Pete Rush, and Steve Driskell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Bell, R. P. Owens, Sandy Keyes, J.C. Robbins and Robert Wilson.
