Richard Wayne Fly Richard Wayne Fly, 85, resident of Alicia Lane, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The family will visit with friends Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The Boys and Girls Club, 210 West 8th Street, Columbia, TN 38401 or First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born June 6, 1933, in Gibson County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Marshall Fly and the late Janie Allen Uselton Fly. He served in the United States Army from 1956 – 1958. Mr. Fly earned his Bachelor’s degree from Lambuth University and his Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. For 21 years, he taught at Columbia Military Academy. After his teaching career Mr. Fly, owned and operated Fly’s Mini Mart on Hampshire Pike, and later worked for Wal-Mart for 18 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married December 23, 1956, Sandra Gayle Jones Fly of Columbia; sons, Mark Wayne (Mary Lynn) Fly, John Richard (Julie) Fly both of Nashville; and grandchildren, Jennifer Fly, Kimberly Fly, Bridgette Fly, and Hayden Fly,

He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Lynn Fly.
