Richard Thompson, 67, passed away on April 16, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Richard leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, adventure, and unwavering love. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Joyce Thompson; his son, Eric Thompson, and daughter-in-law, Malea; his parents, Richard and Sandra Thompson; his brother, Thomas (Darla) Thompson; his sister, Jolene (Kip) Jackson; and his cherished grandchildren, Isaac and Willow Thompson.
Richard was a student of the Bible. He was passionate about teaching Sunday school and the truths found in Holy Scripture. Known for his sharp intellect and insatiable curiosity, he was a lifelong learner with a passion for understanding the world around him. Whether gazing at the stars through a telescope, building computers, or studying new topics just for the joy of learning, Richard’s mind was always in motion.
He was also a man of adventure, both in spirit and in action. A licensed airplane pilot, he found freedom in the skies. On the ground, he could often be found riding his Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, embracing the open road with the same sense of wonder that fueled all his pursuits. He loved boating, bass fishing, skeet shooting, and bowling — hobbies that brought him both challenge and joy.
To those who knew him, Richard was more than his many interests. He was a thoughtful, steady presence — a man of character, deep faith, and quiet strength. His 44-year marriage to Joyce was a testament to his loyalty and love, and his deep bond with his family was a cornerstone of his life.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be Monday, April 21 at 1 PM. The family will receive friends from 11am to the start of the service at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
