RICK WAS BORN IN JOHNSON CITY, NY TO MOTHER MARY (TRESEK) SVARNEY AND PAUL SVARNEY. HE IS
PREDECEASED BY HIS ONE SON RICHARD M. SVARNEY, A BROTHER, RONALD SVARNEY AND SISTER
LINDA SVARNEY AND PARENTS. HE LATER RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP TO ATTEND CORNELL UNIVERISITY
WHERE HE GRADUATED AT THE TOP OF HIS CLASS. HE HAD A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN THE POWER
INDUSTRY WITH STONE AND WEBSTER ENG’G. AND LATER GE. HE HAS TRAVELED TO MANY COUNTRIES
AS A PROJECT MANGER. HE RETIRED FROM KBR AFTER ENJOYING WORKING ON A SHIPPING PORT AND
THE WINDMILL PROJECTS IN CALIFORNIA.
RICK IS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF THE EAGLES AND HE AND IS WIFE OF 49 YRS. –
JOANNE WERE ALABAMA STATE PRESIDENTS THE SAME YEAR AND RAISED OVER $10,000. FOR ST. JUDES
CHILDRENS WING IN HUNTSVILLE. RICK IS ALSO A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE VFW – HIS FATHER PAUL
SERVERED IN WWII AND WAS AT NORMANDY. RICK WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE ELKS. RICK LOVED
BASEBALL AND WAS A COACH FOR ALL THREE SONS. HE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE DIXIE YOUTH LEAGUE
HERE IN DECATUR.
FAMILY: SONS – DANIEL P. SVARNEY (JESSICA), ANDREW C. SVARNEY (ANNA). GRANDSONS: ANDREW
SVARNEY, DYLAN SVARNEY, AYDEN SVARNEY, OLIVERY SVARNEY AND HENRY SVARNEY. RICHARD M.
SVARNEY PREDEACESED IN 2013. RICK HAD 5 GRANDSONS WHO HE WAS VERY PROUD OF – ANDREW,
OLIVER, HENRY AND DYLAN AND AYDEN. HE ALSO HAD NEICES THAT WERE LIKE DAUGHTERS – CARRIE
AND CHRISTY AND AND NEPHEW ERIC AND LAD THAT WERE LIKE SONS. HE WAS An INTELLIGENT AND
KIND MAN AND LEFT A LEGACY THAT OUR FAMILY CAN BE PROUD OF THAT WILL NOT BE SOON
FORGOTTEN. WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIS INFECTOUS LAUGH.
MEMORIAL SERVICE IS SATURDAY, APRIL 29TH AT 2:00PM AT RIDOUT BROWNS FUNERAL CHAPEL ON
MEMORIAL AVE.
