Heaven gained another angel Thursday, Sept. 29, 2017, when Richard Lyle Turner Dickens, 75, no longer needed his earthly body. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Mae Dickens Carpenter; his stepfather, John Paul Dickens; and his father, Richard Carl Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Ransdell Dickens; daughter, Dianna Christine Dickens (Kevin) and son, Richard “Rick” Dickens Jr.; one brother, Donald Dickens (Donna); two sisters, Judy Ferryman (Jack) and Betty Mendoza (George); two grandsons, Johnny and Robbie; nieces and nephews.

Richard and Bonnie lived in Decatur and Falkville in the 1980’s where he was employed by Chesebrough- Pond’s until he transferred to Alto, Georgia, where he lived and worked until his retirement with Johnson & Johnson. Richard was an avid fisherman and a jack of all trades with cars and computers, besides being a die-hard Alabama football fan and a true American who proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Richard loved life with a great gift of remembering faces and names of past relatives.

There will be a Celebration of Life for family in the near future here in Decatur. If you choose to give a gift in his memory, please donate to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are being handled by Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, Georgia.
