Richard Lee ChampionRichard Lee Champion, age 62 of Decherd, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Franklin County on August 16, 1957. Before his illness, he had been employed as a diesel mechanic. He loved the outdoors and spending time at his cabin. Richard was a practical jokester that loved making people laugh, and he will also be remembered for his loving, caring nature. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Champion; sister, Madonna Champion; and grandparents, Howard “Jiggs” Stewart and Edith Belle Stewart, and William Champion and Vergie Champion. Richard is survived by his loving mother, Bonnie Stewart Champion of Decherd; children, Brook Carr of Decherd, Dana (Bobby) Baker of Decherd, and Demi Champion of Decherd; grandchildren, Elijah Champion, and Trinity Carr; brother, Brett (Angie) Champion of Decherd; dear friends, Bobby Powers, and Roni Champion; mother of his children, Sherry Arnette; and four-legged best friend, Hank. Visitation will be from 11 am-1 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Donald Gregory, Bro. John Gipson, and Bro. Kevin Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Garner Cemetery.
