Funeral service for Richard L. Parsons Jr. age 83 of Falkville will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 1:00pm at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Patterson officiating and burial in the Cook Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Parsons, who died on Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home, was born on August 12, 1933 in Ipswich, Massachusetts to Richard and Mary Lewis Parsons. Richard lived a full and productive life, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired with the Coast Guard Reserves after over 20 years of service. He always wore his Coast Guard Veteran’s cap everywhere he went, proudly displaying his patriotic love for our Country. He was a member and Deacon at Gum Springs Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and the Morgan County Dulcimer Association.

Richard leaves behind many people who came to love his positive outlook and encouraging disposition. He lived, loved and laughed. We that are still remaining will continue to live, love and laugh, knowing he is strumming away on one of his very own “hand crafted dulcimers” for all the saints above.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; Dorothy Turney Parsons.

He is survived by his son; Sterling Parsons and his wife Linda and a great granddaughter; Kaelyn, all of Madison.

The Deacons of Gum Springs Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

The family wishes to thank Brother Anthony Patterson and his Church Family for all their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, please submit donations to the United Service Organizations (USO), helping millions of Military personnel worldwide
