Richard L. Baker, 73 of Independence, MO, was called Home as he departed this world January 24, 2020. He leaves behind him a lifetime of love in his wife Linda, children Larry Baker (Marilyn), Sara Bacon, Rebecca Schmidt (Eric), 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Independence, MO.

Richard was born June 28, 1946, in Huntsville, AL, to Ervin and Dessie (Green) Baker. Richard joined his parents, brothers JW and Toby, sisters Eva and Frances on the streets of gold.

He is survived by his siblings Bobby Baker, Kenneth Baker, Betty Jo Golden, Faye Green, and Barbara Hardy (Larry); along with several nieces and nephews, all of Huntsville.

Richard was a wonderful man with a sense of humor that captured the hearts of his family and everyone he knew. A kind, selfless man that was funny, supportive, and playful, and loved his family unconditionally. Richard enjoyed many summers at the lake, spending time with his family, fishing, sharing stories, and cracking jokes.

Following funeral services on Tuesday, January 28, at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, Richard will return to Huntsville where he will be laid to rest beside his mother on Thursday, January 30.

A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Berryhill Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service officiated by Jerry Hovis.
