Mr. Richard Hughes Flack, Jr. age 77, of Arab, Alabama, the Shady Grove community of Blount County, passed away at Woodland Village Rehab Center in Cullman, AL. Richard was born May 21, 1946 in Morgan County, son of Richard “Shep” Hughes Flack, Sr. and Lucy Ida Thomas Flack. Richard was of the Baptist faith, a high school graduate, and a US Army (Vietnam) veteran. He retired from Pittsburg Plate Glass Company (PPG) where he was an Aircon operator. He and his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Shelton Flack, were married for over 40 years. Barbara passed away March 11, 2023, exactly 24 weeks prior to Richard.
Richard and Barbara shared many interest but still managed to follow their individual interest as well. They both enjoyed dove and quail hunting, riding horses, fishing and golfing. They were both extremely talented individuals and musically talented. They were both members of the Crystal River Bluegrass group. Richard was a talented mandolin player with the group.
Family members left behind to cherish memories of Richard include: son, Marcus Flack (Missy); sisters, Myrle Childers and Laura Eick (Paul); two grandchildren, Shawn Flack and Tyler Flack; brother-in-law, W.D. Wray.
Family members preceding Richard in death include: wife, Barbara Flack, parents, Richard and Lucy Flack, brothers, Harlen Flack and Rex Flack; sisters, Nada Ruth Flack, Judy Wray and Eloise East.
Services for Richard will be on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00. Brother Nicky James will be officiating. Burial will be in the West Point Baptist Church Cemetery in Morgan County.
Pallbearers escorting Richard to his final resting place will be Shawn Flack, Tyler Flack, Chris Flack, Dale Shelton, Jeff Shelton and Steven Hanners.
