Obituary of Richard Edmund Wambsganss Sr.Richard Edmund Wambsganss, Sr. passed away on May 9, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama,

just two days after celebrating his 86th birthday. He was born on May 7, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Richard (Dick) was an avid sportsman and music lover. He cherished his time on the golf course, enjoyed peaceful days fishing, and was a passionate follower of both Alabama and

Auburn football. He also found great joy in the beautiful music of Andre Rieu, and the New Orleans-based band, Tuba Skinny. He was an avid reader, as well.

Dick’s devotion to his wife of 68 years, Charlotte (known as Charlie to him) and to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, was steadfast. He commented on every on-line photograph and video, his love and support a constant in his family’s life. His love for telling personal stories and his hilarious sense of humor will be sorely missed by all.

Dick was known for his strong determination — once his mind was made up, nothing would stand in his way. At the tender age of 20, he became the youngest Second Lieutenant in the US Army. After serving a tour in Viet Nam, he resigned from the Army and finally the US Army Reserves with the rank of Colonel. He then attended Jones School of Law, and practiced law for a few years. Finally, Dick became an officer of Regions Bank Trust Department, finishing his career there as Executive Vice President. He was an incredible

over-achiever, had an impeccable work ethic, and was honest to a fault.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacques Richard Wambsganss, his mother, Melba Louise Culpepper and his sister, Lisa Gail Wambsganss McDaniel.

Dick is survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughter Susan Davis (Danny), sons Richard and Jake (Takako), six grandchildren – Katie White, Ben Davis, Caleb Wambsganss, Hannah Sillers, Lotte Wambsganss, Sasha Wambsganss and eight beloved great-grandchildren – Claire and Daniel Davis; Elsie and India White; Blakely, Micah and Zeke Sillers; and Rose Wambsganss.

~ He is forever in our hearts ~
