Richard Baker – Obituary

richardbakerRichard Baker was born on March 3, 1959 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Eulice Baker and Kate Rixie Thomas Baker.  He passed into eternal life on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus.

Richard accepted Christ at an early age and joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro under the leadership of the Reverend Silas Hunt.  He was educated in the Decatur City School System and was a 1978 graduate of Decatur High School.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1978-1993. He was employed at Wayne Farms and retired after 29 years of Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Tiller Ann Baker, Susie Pearl Baker and Marie Baker Buford.

Cherishing his precious memories are: his loving wife, Shelia Taylor Baker; two daughters, Martina Baker and Sheree (Jarvis) Shaw; one son, Mark Baker all of Decatur; four grandchildren,  Raquel Long, O’Marion Goodwin, DaMarius Nance and Camden Shaw; five sisters, Mary Ann (Joe) Owens of Hillsboro, De Jaurice  )Jimmie) Foster of Decatur, Emma (Robert) Lewis of Birmingham, Joyce Ann J. (Curtis) Pickett and Michelle Baker both of Decatur; five brothers, Ervin (Brenda) Baker, Calvin (Polly) Baker of Decatur, James Baker of Madison and Michael Baker of Decatur; two sisters-in-law, Donna Burgess and Margaret Taylor both of Decatur; brother-in-law, Undray (Deborah) Taylor of Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Paul Spiritual Church with the Reverend Doris Baker officiating and inhumation will follow in Trinity Mountain Cemetery.  The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public Viewing will be Thursday from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am-7:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.
