Retired Lieutenant Richard A. “Dick” Yearick, Jr., 78, of Meridianville, passed away peacefully in the company of his family on March 25, 2017.

Dick was born July 11, 1938 in Pennsylvania. He was a varsity letterman in football, baseball and wrestling at Bald Eagle Nittany High School.

He moved to Huntsville, AL in late 1967 where he began a career with the Huntsville Police Department that would span 49 years of law enforcement. Among many other awards and recognitions, Dick was presented the Purple Heart Medal after being shot in the line of duty. It was the strength and tenacity that he is known for that allowed him to fight through the injury and continue to live a life of fulfillment. Dick was proud to be the President of the Officers Bass Club. He made lifelong friends who became family at HPD, and he loved serving his community with them. He loved Penn State Football, hunting and fishing; most of all he loved his family.

Dick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shelia Searcy Yearick; sisters: Patty Cain (Wayne), and Dawn Ash (David); children: Cathy Yearick Green (Randy), Dondi Burcham (Christy Bentley), Steve Yearick, Shawn Burcham (Fabi), and Niki Yearick White (Buz); grandchildren: Michael Magrone (Samantha), Tyler Green (Jordan), Tayler White, Noah Green, Mackenzie White, Heath Yearick, Dakota and Dylan Burcham; and great grandchildren: Maggie and Levi Magrone.

Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Zerbe (Ray); son, Michael Yearick; father, Richard Yearick, Sr. (Twyla); and sister, Karen Frederick.

The family invites you to a visitation at Berryhill Funeral Home on Tuesday March 28, 2017 from 5-8p. There will also be a visitation from 12-2p on Wednesday March 29, 2017, with funeral services starting at 2p. Interment to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
