Rex M. Garrison, 87 of Guntersville, Alabama, the Hopewell Community, died Monday August 22, 2016 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mr. Garrison was born March 26, 1929 in Marshall County, Alabama to James Silas Garrison and Saphronia Jester Garrison. He was a poultry farmer and bus driver until his retirement. Mr. Garrison served in the U.S. Army. He was married to the former Mattie Lou Johnson for 67 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Mattie Lou Garrison; one daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca Kay and Dennis Suits; grandchildren: Jeremy and Bonnie Yates, Amanda and George Lynn, Beverly and Jimmy Lay and Sheryl Maltbie; great grandchildren: Kylie Yates, Kara Yates, Colt Yates, Clay Lynn, Brantley Maltbie, Samuel Lay and Claire Lay; one sister Margie Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Saphronia Garrison and brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday August 24, 2016 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Brothers: Jerry Burgett, Kenneth Smith and Wesley Watts, officiating. Burial will be in New Canaan Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be David Skidmore, Larry Johnson, Chris Garrison, Arthur Dyson, Larry Horton and Randall Morrow.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Hallman and Harold Leak.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Wednesday August 24, 2016 prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted or make donations to New Canaan Cemetery Fund.
