Rex Colquett Murray, age 90, passed away on September 22, 2026, at his home in Rainbow City, Alabama, with his family by his side.Born February 26, 1936, Rex spent his life showing up for the people and things that mattered most to him—his family, his faith, and those in his community.
Rex grew up in the area, graduated from Gadsden High School, and was a long-time member of First Methodist Church of Rainbow City. He put in 30 years at Goodyear Tire Manufacturing in Gadsden, earning a reputation for hard work and reliability day in and day out.
Those who knew Rex knew he appreciated a simple, good time. He loved settling in for a good movie, listening to rock & roll, and traveling whenever he had the chance.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Norma Dean Murray; his former wife, Anna Hartbarger; and many loved cousins.
He leaves behind his wife, Patricia Ann Murray; his daughter, Kelley (Jason) Leamon; his son, Kevin (Heather) Amberson; and his four grandchildren, Lindsey (Quenton) Winkowski, James Amberson Jr., McCain Foster, and Jase Leamon, all of whom he was deeply proud of and loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 24th, at First Methodist Church of Rainbow City, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Henderson, Randy Phillips, Dennis Bohannon, James Amberson Jr., Jase Leamon, and Quenton Winkowski.
The family is truly grateful to the nurses and staff at McGuffey Healthcare and Gentiva Hospice for taking such good, kind care of Rex in his last days.
