jc and companyFLORENCE-The Latebloomer Production & The Not Ready For Jones Hope-Wooten Players performed their last performance of the play “Revenge of The Coconuts” this past Saturday at the Zodiac Theatre in Florence.
This play was written by a local soul, Don Grace. It was a comedic reinterpretation of The Bard’s classic tale of the melancholy Dane. It was set on the tropical island of Kenamariki.ghost guy
The play was very Hamlet based, in that, you recognized a lot of character names like Hamlet, Ophelia and other literary characters. The play had similar themes in terms of the murdering uncle, restless ghost father, Hamlet’s awkward pursuit of Ophelia’s love, and Hamlet’s mother’s ignorance towards her husband’s killer.
Bananas were thrown, people were murdered, and love was misdirected. In the end, the play proved it’s comedic role by the audience’s laughter.
The stage was creative, stationary and practical. The pace of scenes and acts worked. I enjoyed the light-heartedness of this play.
The jokes and satire made a sad subject funny. For that, this play gets three and a half coconuts out of five.
