Renate Mathilde Ostermann, 85, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, December 8, 2014, with her family at her bedside. Born in Pflach, Tirol, Austria, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and children in March of 1962. She proudly became a United States citizen at the US District Court in Birmingham, Alabama April 30, 1980.
Renate enjoyed being a part of the Red Cross Volunteer organization at Huntsville Hospital. She was honored and recognized for her diligent service spanning over 25 years. Along with her volunteer work, she was also an avid china painter and seamstress. She spent many hours at Huntsville’s Senior Center with friends, honing her artistic talent.
Renate is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Meinrad Ostermann; her daughter Sonja Herda and husband, David; her daughter Anita Keeton and husband, Laurence; her grandchildren Schatzi, Christopher, Matthew, Jeffrey, Kylie and Torie; and her great grandson, Dillon. Renate is also survived by her brother Alexander Hummel; her sister Sophie Schürzinger, along with other family members in Austria.
No services are planned.
