The race features a scenic course showcasing the best of Florence as endurance athletes swim 1.5km / .9 miles in the Tennessee River, Bike a 40 km / 25 mile loop up Savannah Highway and back down Gunwaleford Road, then finish it off with running a 10km / 6.2 miles through the heart of downtown Florence and UNA’s campus.
For the second year we are proud to have been selected as the USAT Southeast Regional Special Qualifier for the Olympic-Distance. Athletes that qualify at this event get to move on to the 2016 USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance National Championships in Omaha, Nebraska on August 13th. As this is only the third year of the event, its a big honor to have been selected to host this special qualifier two consecutive years!download
This event is dedicated to give back, and this year our charity partner is The 610 Project. The 610 Project is a Shoals-based nonprofit dedicated to the sustainable success of developing Haitian communities. The mission of The 610 Project is to empower the Haitian people through education, vocational training, and microenterprise efforts in such a way that these communities will begin to thrive and provide for their own people and needs.
imagesAs the event moves closer to kick-off we will need the community to support these athletes by volunteering on the routes to support them and help keep them safe on the roadways. If you are interested in volunteering please visit https://vols.pt/hDVACq and sign up for a spot today!
If you would like to participate, its not too late to register! If you don’t feel like you can complete the entire race on your own you can also sign up with a friend or two as a relay team, or participate in the Aquabike or Cyclorun. Registration prices increase soon so sign-up now at www.shoaltri.comdownload (2)
The Renaissance Man Triathlon was created by husband and wife team, Bradley and Jordyn Dean, in 2012 to help create a Renaissance in The Shoals through athletic endurance, creative thinking, philanthropy, and a community minded spirit. Bradley participated in triathlons throughout the Southeast and always came back to Florence questioning why the Shoals didn’t have one. It became their mission to use their marketing and event production skills to bring the Olympic-Distance triathlon to life.
