Reefer Alvin Hughes passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Blinda Hughes; daughters Darla Jenkins (Mike) and Melisa Walls; sons Stephen Hughes and Timothy Hughes; grandchildren Aaron Jenkins, Joseph Chansuolme, Todd Hughes, Jordan Hughes, and Kaitlin Hughes; and great-grandchild Stetson Hughes. He is also survived by his brother Lester Hughes and sister Linda Davidson.
Reefer was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas C. and Eliza Hughes; son, Reefer “Tony” Hughes; brothers Dexter, Thomas, Marlon, and Vester “Tiny” Hughes; sisters Loretta Goss, Rosalie Cryer, and Jean Bailey; and grandson Clay Hughes.
A funeral service will be held at Hebron Church of Christ in Hulaco, Alabama, with a graveside service following at New Friendship Baptist Church in Union Grove, Alabama. Reefer will be remembered for his love of family and the quiet strength he shared with everyone around him.
