Mrs. Rebecca Prinetta Croom  Rebecca Prinetta Owens Croom was born December 5, 1960, in Sheffield, AL to the late James Prince Owens and the late Mildred Stewart Owens. On Friday night, January 26, 2024, Rebecca returned to her heavenly home when one of God’s angels whispered, “Well done thou good and faithful servant. Thy work is completed enter into the joy of salvation.”

Rebecca was a prayer warrior who loved and served the Lord. Through life’s journey, Rebecca became a founding member of Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ (COGIC) where she remained a faithful, active, and loving member until death.

Rebecca completed her studies at Shelton State Community College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later completed her Associate in Nursing at Calhoun Community College. When Virginia College came calling, Rebecca decided to make a career move from nursing to become an educator and ultimately become the Program Director over the Allied Health Department. To teach is to touch a life forever, Rebecca touched many lives and knew all of her students on a name-by-name basis.

During her tenure at Virginia College, Rebecca received a Bachelor and Master of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Athens State University. After Virginia College closed, Rebecca became a caregiver for her late mother-in-law Mrs. Ida Mae Croom.

On June 11, 1988, Juan Croom was united in holy matrimony to his “Pooh,” Rebecca. Their 35-year union was blessed with two girls, Lauren and Ashleigh whom Rebecca cherished and embraced every moment with.

At an early age, Rebecca was taught to always look out for her sisters and treat everyone with kindness. Rebecca’s compassion and love for her family never wavered. Her caring spirit was evident with her husband, daughters, sisters, extended family members, and friends. What was so special about Rebecca was her knack for getting it done. She was a jack of all trades to everyone who truly knew her. She was always a phone call away to anyone who needed a good book to read, a good house plant to buy, or just a good laugh. Her hands were rarely still except on Fridays and Saturdays because, “Y’all know I don’t cook on Fridays and Saturdays.”

Her spirit was infectious to anyone she came across. Whether it was the staff at Hardee’s every morning getting her biscuits, buying groceries at Publix, or walking the aisles of Lowe’s and Home Depot prepping for her next project.

Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories; a loving husband, Juan Croom, two daughters, Lauren and Ashleigh Croom, and three sisters: Constance Yelding, Shiela Madden, and Tracy Owens; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, lifelong friends, and a special bond with her great-nephew Jasaiah Owens. Her tenacity, wit, charm, and grace will never be forgotten by all who loved her.

The funeral service for Mrs. Rebecca Prinetta Croom will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ (313 Beirne Ave NE, Huntsville AL 35801) with Elder Dave Draper, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Croom will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, and 8:30 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Royal Funeral Home.
