Services for Raymond S. Vest, 86, will be held Sunday, December 28, 2014 at 2:00pm at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Callahan and Rev. Charles Williams officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until service time on Sunday at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Vest died on December 24, 2014 at Summerford Nursing Home.
He was born June 19, 1928 to Bevie and Azilee Vest. Raymond was a charter member of First Holy Church of Christ in Decatur, Al, where he Directed Music, serving the community in a bus outreach and other ministries. For many years he was involved with “The National Gospel Singing Convention” representing Alabama. Also, he was the leader of a songbook singing at Summerford Nursing Home for many years.
Raymond Vest and his family were grateful for the care and assistance he received from kind staff at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville, Ala., where Raymond spent his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his girls, Virginia Dotson Vest Hollis and sister-in-law, Wilma Vest.
Survivors include his dedicated wife of 41 years, Wanize Vest, his brother Delbert Vest of Hartselle, Ala and five children. They are Ann R. Moseley (Bob) of Sardis, Ala, Mary Callahan (Roy) of Florence, MS, Regina Jackson (Greg) of Moulton, Randy Pearson (Sheila) of Hillsboro, Ala and Anita Sparks (Johnny) of Hillsboro, Ala. He has 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grand-Children and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild. Also, he had many loving nieces, nephews, and family members.
Pallbearers will be Tim Brown, Billy Vest, Earl Vest, Gary Vest, Ray Vest, and Virgil Vest.
