Born on September 17, 1939, in Broaddus, Texas, Ray lived a life marked by steady accomplishment, deep curiosity, and devotion to those closest to him. He attended the Air Force Academy and Lamar University, experiences that helped shape a thoughtful and disciplined approach to life and work.

Ray built a distinguished career as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Elrick & Lavidge Market Research in Atlanta. He was respected for his professional leadership and for the highly intelligent, careful, inquisitive mind he brought to his work. Restless in early retirement, he sought opportunities to learn something new and acquired Valor Enterprises; he leveraged his corporate experience and knowledge to improve operational efficiency and increase profits in this existing business.

He was a generous, caring, quiet man who loved his family, friends, dogs, gadgets, and DIY projects. Whether working with his hands or exploring a new idea, Ray found meaning in understanding how things worked; those who knew him will remember that blend of practical skill and quiet curiosity.

Ray is survived by his wife, Dianne Beard; his son, Todd Beard (Alina); his daughters, Denise McGhee (Dave), Tracy Doyle, and Christy Marcoux (Chris); his grandchildren, Jack Reed, Mackenzie Flynn, Robert Beard, Iley Hatchett, Aidan Doyle, and Thomas Beard; and his brother, Hubert Beard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Walker and Ora Mae Beard; son, Jeff Hatchett; brothers, Johnny, James, Paul, Lon, and Oscar; and sisters, Hortense, Marceilette, Duvatine, Arvena, and Edna.

Ray will be remembered with respect and gratitude for a life of work, curiosity, and enduring care for his family.
